Daily Essentials: What to Carry in Your Every Day Handbag

Deciding upon what type of handbag you want to buy is hard enough, but knowing what to put in your bag is even harder.

If you are finding that your handbag has too much useless stuff in it or not enough essential stuff, this guide should help give you a better idea of what to bring.

Always consider what you need to carry in your handbag every day. Ask yourself what items do you use frequently and make a list of these essential items.

You should also consider where you are going for the day and specifically what you need to have to go there and do whatever you have planned.

Below are a few key categories of daily essentials you should consider bringing in your purse.

Health and Beauty

Evaluate how much makeup you need each day. If you wear makeup every day or go out a lot, you may want to consider putting in a makeup bag in your purse, and make sure you also bring a small mirror with you.

If you don’t go out as often or tend to use less makeup, just keep your makeup accessories to the basics.

Other great hygiene essential to consider are hand sanitizer, tissues and a hairbrush, even if you don’t wear cosmetics.

You can also consider dental hygiene items like a toothbrush, toothpaste or at the minimum dental floss, which will come in handy after a meal.

Packing mints or gum are also a great essential to have after you have eaten a meal with garlic or onions in them.

You also shouldn’t forget to always pack a tampon. Always bring a second pad or tampon to change into.

Most purses will have an inside zipper pocket to keep these items discreetly.

Always go over any medication you take and add it to your handbag as necessary. If you are prone to headaches or cramps, you will want to keep a small bottle of pain reliever in your purse.

If you wear contacts, you will want to keep a contact lenses case and eye drops in your bag, along with a pair of glasses, if they need to be removed on a long dry day.

You should always care any medication or vitamins that you or your family may need in case of an emergency, as well as some basic first aid items such as Band-Aids.

Always consider bringing a few comfort or entertainment essentials in your handbag.

If you are going on a Sunday trip to the park, would you want to bring a mini fan and some snacks? What about a reading book or a notebook for drawing?

When packing, remember to go easy on items like these and to only choose ones that are most important to you.

Money, Keys and Identification

Be sure to always include your wallet in your purse, along with money, personal identification and keys for your house and car.

If you are going to be carrying cash, make sure you don’t carry too much, in case your bag gets stolen.

Bonus Tip

Remember, avoid packing too much stuff. If you find you have too much stuff, consider miniaturizing and consolidating items.

If you like reading books, consider using your phone or buying a kindle. If you like drawing, consider bring a multi-use pen, instead of carrying multiple.

Another great way to consolidate your handbag is to use a handbag insert, which will help you organize your belongings and force you to clear out some of the clutter.

Not only will your handbag be easier to carry around, but your husband or boyfriend will thank you for it. At the end of the day, it’s just a handbag, not a suitcase.
